Introduction. Researchers dealing with the issue of foster parenting agree in defining the factors influencing the quality of the foster parent’s tasks. In this context, significant importance is attached to the foster parents’ upbringing styles (Berrick and Skivenes, 2012; Buehler, Rhodes, Orme, Cuddeback, 2006; Orme et al., 2004). In most cases, experiences in children who have been taken into care are characterized by difficulties that involve various forms of neglect or abuse. These experiences often lead to emotional, developmental, and behavioural problems of children, which require foster parents to have, above all, the ability to create a stable, safe, and predictable educational environment and to adapt the parenting style to the needs of children taken into care (Crum, 2010; Moore, McDonald, Cronbaugh-Auld, 2016). Aim. The aim of the research was to determine the replacement styles of upbringing used by professional foster parents, with the use of the Questionnaire for the Study of Upbringing Style in the Family created by Maria Ryś (2001). The study covered 76 professional foster families conducting family emergency services in the Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodships. Results. The results of the research show that professional foster parents mainly use a democratic style of upbringing, showing high compliance between spouses in the manifestation of individual styles of upbringing. There are statistically significant differences with regard to the age and education of foster parents. The democratic style is most often used by parents with secondary education and those in early adulthood. The autocratic style is most intensely manifested by parents in late adulthood and those with basic education. The liberal loving style is most characteristic of middle-aged parents and those with secondary education. The parents in the study showed the least intense use of the unloving liberal style.
