The aim. The article presents an analysis of educational changes taking place in the conditions of a changing world. The author, on the basis of the available literature, especially the book Education in a changing society by Professor Mirosław J. Szymański, seeks answers to questions concerning the preparation (of) an individual to function responsibly in a changing society, their ability to act effi ciently in new cultural conditions, understand phenomena, and direct themselves. Against this background, he signals the changing tasks of the school and the teacher. Materials and method. Review and analysis of the literature on the subject. Conclusions. Education is a socially very important, but at the same time very diffi cult fi eld. The future of societies, including our nation, depends largely on the state of education. Particularly at a time of rapid social change, which is characterised by its comprehensive and complex nature, education has an important role to play. Schools and other educational institutions are subjected to enormous challenges. Alongside the family and other links in society, such as centres of power, cultural institutions and the mass media, they are responsible for the quality of the socialisation and upbringing of children and young people. Although there many are centres and institutions active in this area, the responsibility of the school is special. A variety of tasks for education and for the teacher to shape people’s competences to participate actively, consciously, and responsibly in these changes emerge. Questions arise: is the school adequately prepared for these challenges? What is the relationship of education to the increasing pace of social change and the increasing opacity of the world? In studying this article, the reader is invited to discuss and independently seek and answer these and other questions.
